This module prepares healthcare professionals who are required to give evidence as a witness of fact in Medical Treatment cases before the High Court.
The video presentation provides key information about the Court process and supports witnesses to approach their evidence with clarity and confidence.
By the end of this module, you will be able to:
- Explain the legal framework for Medical Treatment cases, including relevant aspects of the Children Act 1989 and the Inherent Jurisdiction of the High Court.
- Understand the structure and function of the High Court, the types of hearings, and possible Court orders.
- Prepare effectively before giving evidence, including reviewing your statement and medical records.
- Recognise the differences between giving evidence in person and remotely via video link.
- Understand the Courtroom process and how to give clear, balanced, and factual evidence.
- Distinguish between examination-in-chief and cross-examination and anticipate common lines of questioning.
- Apply practical tips and techniques for presenting evidence in the High Court.
- Identify the differences between a witness of fact and expert witnesses.
- Understand what happens after giving evidence, including options for debriefing.
