This module is designed to prepare healthcare professionals who are required to give evidence as a witness of fact in Criminal Proceedings.
The video presentation provides essential information to help witnesses understand the Criminal Court process and develop confidence when presenting their evidence.
By the end of this module, you will be able to:
- Explain the Police investigation process and how requests for evidence are made to NHS Trusts.
- Understand the structure of the Criminal Court and the roles of the Crown Prosecution Service, Defence, and other key parties.
- Prepare effectively before giving evidence, including reviewing your written statement.
- Recognise the key differences between giving evidence in person and remotely via video link.
- Understand what to expect when attending Court and how to present your evidence clearly and confidently.
- Recognise the differences between examination-in-chief and cross-examination and anticipate the types of questions you may be asked.
- Apply practical hints, tips, and techniques for effective courtroom evidence.
- Identify the differences between a witness of fact and expert witnesses.
- Understand what happens after giving evidence, including the value of a debrief.
- Use the interactive courtroom feature to familiarise yourself with the Court layout and the roles of the Judge, jury, and legal representatives.
