This module supports healthcare professionals who may be called to give evidence as a witness of fact in Care Proceedings or Fact-Finding Hearings.
The video presentation provides an overview of the Family Court process and offers practical guidance to help witnesses feel more confident and prepared when presenting their evidence.
By the end of this module, you will be able to:
- Explain the principles of the Children Act 1989, the purpose of Care Proceedings, and the roles of the parties involved.
- Understand the structure of the Family Court, the types of hearings, and Court Orders.
- Prepare effectively before giving evidence, including reviewing written statements and reports.
- Recognise the differences between giving evidence in person and remotely.
- Understand the Courtroom process and how to give evidence clearly and effectively.
- Distinguish between examination-in-chief and cross-examination and anticipate common lines of questioning.
- Apply practical tips and techniques for giving confident and professional evidence.
- Identify the differences between a witness of fact and expert witnesses.
- Understand what happens after your evidence, including the option for a debrief.
