Introduction to Children’s and Young People’s Mental Health – In Person
Overview
Supporting the mental health and wellbeing of the child, young person and family is a core part of our delivery of holistic care for all our patients at GOSH. Often as non-mental health professionals we can feel stuck on how to support or talk to a child about their mental health in our day to day practice. It can seem daunting and may be anxiety provoking. This course is aimed for both clinical and allied health professionals who would like further knowledge, skill and understanding of addressing the mental health struggles and difficulties this patient group may face within the complex healthcare setting.
If you would like to pay for this webinar through your Trust/organisation, you will need to email LDMH.Education@gosh.nhs.uk for a quote to be sent to you for processing.

The mental health and wellbeing of children, young people & families is a core part of ensuring the delivery of holistic care for all our patients within our NHS. In a growing mental health pandemic, professionals across all bandings and specialities are wanting to gain further confidence in knowing what to do and how to support/manage a child or young person who may be presenting with mental health difficulties in their practice.
This course is particularly aimed for healthcare professionals working closely with children and young people and their families/carers in a paediatric setting and who feel they need to gain further knowledge, skill and understanding of addressing the mental health difficulties.
This two day course is aimed to provide you with a space to learn more about children’s mental health by:
- Introducing key psychological theories
- Learning key practical therapeutic skills and building confidence in implementing these.
- Feel more confident to support children with their mental health
- Recognise where not feeling able to manage mental health patient groups may impact team working.
- Support your teams to feel more motivated and validated.
By the end of the course, we would like you to think about an implementation plan for your workplace; a small practical intervention/concept that you could introduce to your workplace based on what you learn from the course.
There will be space during the course to share your own reflections and different experiences in this area and draw upon this for the group’s learning.
