Overview

This education package aims to provide nurses new to looking after paediatric patients undergoing Haematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation (HSCT) the essential knowledge to care for these patients, particularly those undergoing allogeneic HSCT for haematological conditions within Principal Treatment Centres. Facilitated by expert professionals from Great Ormond Street Hospital, this course will empower you to deliver evidence-based care for children and families.

Delivery

The content will be delivered asynchronously though pre-recorded presentations, self-directed quizzes and e-learning packages.

This course could be used as standalone learning or to lead into completing an academic module in HSCT.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Demonstrate understanding of the principles and indications for allogeneic HSCT, pre-transplant assessments, donor selection and preparative regimens.
  2. Demonstrate knowledge of the transplant procedure, alongside management of acute side effects and nursing supportive care.
  3. Establish awareness of ethical, psychological and family centred considerations in paediatric HSCT.
