Overview
The Paediatric Information Gathering and Examination Skills course from Great Ormond Street Learning Academy is designed to enhance clinicians’ confidence in assessing children and young people. Please note this is an unaccredited course and it is not possible to gain formal qualification from this. This is for a skills refresher or for a learning step towards our accredited training which can be found on The GLA website.
Aims
The course aims to develop healthcare professionals’ knowledge and confidence in paediatric information gathering and physical examination. It is designed to support safe, holistic, and evidence-based assessment of children and young people, while enhancing clinical reasoning and communication skills within paediatric practice.

Learning Objectives
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
- Conduct structured communication to enable a comprehensive paediatric information gathering which will support history taking.
- Demonstrate effective communication skills when interacting with children, young people, and their families.
- Perform systematic paediatric physical examinations safely and effectively of key body systems.
- Recognise key normal and abnormal clinical findings in children and young people.
- Deliver holistic, child-centred care within a range of paediatric healthcare settings.
