Allied Health and Healthcare Science Workplace Supervision
Overview
This half day online course aims to enhance your skills, knowledge and confidence to effectively and successfully supervise staff within a healthcare context. This session will include an introduction to all forms of supervision in the workplace, the various models available and how to ensure supervision is effective.
It will concentrate on four key types of supervision – managerial, professional, clinical and restorative. Communication skills to enable effective supervision, alongside models and frameworks will be explored. The theory and practice of effective supervision will be integrated into activities with practical application for your role as a supervisor. You will be encouraged to draw on and share your own experiences throughout this interactive programme. This course is mapped to HCPC guidance; however this is a minimal part of the course, and all healthcare professionals are welcome to attend.
Location: virtual via Teams (this is an interactive course, and we require that you have a working camera and microphone to join).

– Critically evaluate the legal, and regulatory frameworks that underpin supervision practices in health care settings, demonstrating an ability to apply relevant legislation and professional standards to supervisory scenarios.
- Explore Definitions and Models of Supervision
-Analyse and compare key definitions, models, and theoretical approaches to supervision within health care, identifying their implications for practice and professional development.
- Identify Enablers and Barriers to Effective Supervision
-Investigate and assess the organisational, interpersonal, and systemic factors that act as enablers or barriers to effective supervision, proposing strategies to enhance supervisory practice in diverse health care environments.
- Contextualise Learning into Personal Practice
-Reflect critically on supervision theories and practices, synthesising learning to develop a personal framework for supervision that is responsive to the needs of your professional role and practice context.
